Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Cofertility's Split program?
Cofertility’s Split program gives eligible members the opportunity to freeze their eggs entirely for free, including 10 years of free storage, when they donate half of the eggs retrieved to a family that can’t otherwise conceive.
What makes the Split program different from other egg freezing and donation programs?
Cofertility is on a mission to increase accessibility and choice in fertility care through their unique egg sharing model. Traditionally, egg freezing can cost anywhere from $11,000 to over $20,000, plus the costs associated with medications and storage. Cofertility’s Split program makes the whole process free, while also giving egg donors the opportunity to do something meaningful for another family while investing in their own future family-building.
How do I know how many eggs I have?
You’re born with all of the eggs you’ll ever have (about 1-2 million!), and that number decreases over time. While it’s not possible to get an exact count, doctors can estimate your ovarian reserve by assessing hormone levels and other reproductive health evaluations.
How much does Cofertility's Split program cost?
Through Cofertility’s Split program, all of the costs associated with your egg freezing, including 10 years of storage, are entirely free.
Will donating a portion of my eggs impact my future fertility?
In short, no. Freezing or donating your eggs does not negatively impact your overall ovarian reserve — the process just preserves eggs that would have otherwise “died off” during a typical menstrual cycle. Egg freezing does not impact your ability to conceive without assistance in the future, it simply maximizes your options by preserving additional eggs.
How do I know if I qualify?
Cofertility follows FDA, ASRM, and industry standard guidelines around egg donation that are designed to protect the health and well-being of donors, intended parents, and donor-conceived children alike. As such, Split Members must be ages 21-33, have no major health issues, and be able to provide information about their family medical history.
